During the month of December our class be involved in an author study featuring Jan Brett. Jan Brett is an author/illustrator who creates fun and captivating stories for young learners. We will read a few of her books and incorporate them into our writer’s workshop and our learning centers. The children will learn to appreciate her unique style and apply her technique to their own work.
Inquiry Questions: How do we help and care for our planet? What traditions and customs to do we share? During this month the children will… Identify the origin of natural resources. Recognize that some resources are renewable and some are non- renewable. Identify ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle by creating something new out of something old. Share family traditions with classmates. (See homework assignment above) Recognize that classmates have varied backgrounds and may share principles, goals, customs, and traditions. Understand and become familiar with author Jan Brett by participating in an author study. Identify characters and important events from different stories. Share opinions about a Jan Brett book. Read poems; Myself and the Elf, Our Beautiful World, Old King Cole. Identify concepts of print. Read and write sight words: to, in, it, is, on, for, what, will, into. Identify beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words. Spelling short vowel words. Write two sentences that go together. (Buddy sentences) Practice writing the correct formation of letters. Construct, describe, and extend repeated patterns. Identify the unit of a repeated pattern. Record and share data from math investigations. Count to 75. Be a kind friend and work cooperatively in learning centers. Thank you Bridget and Amber for our fun November festival! The children have been working on building their reading skills in their small reading groups. Please practice the reader books that come home. They are also choosing topics to write about while writing words for their pictures during writing workshop.
