Dear Families,
This month we have started our first Applied Learning Project in kindergarten. We are becoming weather experts. Later this month we will share our learning with our family and friends and present a Kindergarten Weather Gallery! This month we will answer our own questions about weather and also our class questions: What are seasons like in different parts of our country? What are the characteristics of winter in our community? What are different types of weather? How can we show how a thermometer works? This month we will: Identify the seasons of the year. Identify the characteristics of winter in our community. Identify aspects of weather; temperature, wind, precipitation, storms. Describe observable changes in weather. Give examples of how weather affects people’s daily activities in our community and around our country. Use technology to identify weather around the U.S. and the world. Complete research to answer our questions. Create a project that represents our weather learning. Write and illustrate stories with sequence, having a clear beginning, middle, and ending. Focus reading comprehension on rich narration and specificity of movement through narrative pantonmimes. Identify concepts of print. Spell and use words families with short a and e. Participate in a weekly spelling assessment. Identify and use phonics sounds: /sh/, /ch/, /th/, /wh/ and /fl/, /gl/.
